BeeRyong is a Korean Jindo Dog being fostered
by Jin-Sohl Jindo Dog Rescue, located in Southern California.

BeeRyong is a red male Jindo located in
southern California.
In Korean lore, the name BeeRyong refers
to a beneficial flying dragon (http://shihanblackbeltacademy.ca/html/philosophy.html)/
Our best guess places BeeRyong at about
two years of age. He was picked up as a stray by a local shelter
and his owners never came to get him. He was extremely thin when
picked up, however he is now gaining steadily and will weight about 45
pounds when at his correct weight. BeeRyong is neutered, microchipped,
fully vaccinated, and crate trained. He is typically picky about
his bathroom habits and is housetrained.
BeeRyong has a very traditional Jindo
temperament, and his new owner will need to understand and embrace what
that means. The ideal owner for BeeRyong will be an experienced dog
owner who understands the breed and enjoys their unique temperament.
This boy is a polite and handsome dog with a striking personality.
With those he knows he is affectionate, outgoing, and a real love.
He likes to rub up against you like a cat to receive a good full body scratching.
He will race around, dance, and play in pure joy. He is sensibly
protective, and will sound off with a deep bark when given good reason.
With people he does not know, BeeRyong acts in a reserved manner and will
allow polite petting if given the OK by his owner. Jindos are not
a breed with a high tolerance for rough, forceful, or inappropriate handling
from strangers and BeeRyong needs an owner who will take a proactive approach
to this aspect of his personality. Because of this characteristic,
we feel an adult home would be the best choice for BeeRyong.
BeeRyong has not had any formal obedience
training and would benefit from the structured exposure a positive reinforcement
obedience class would give. He knows “sit” and his foster home is
working with him on other basic commands.

He enjoys going for walks and loves the
chance to explore new places. BeeRyong exhibits the high prey drive
normal for this hunting breed and will not be placed in a home with cats
or other small animals. While not outright aggressive towards other
dogs, BeeRyong has given every indication that he has little interest in
interacting with them. We feel he would do best as an only dog.
Being a true Jindo at heart, BeeRyong forms
very tight bonds with those he is close to and any potential new owner
must be committed to being his “forever” home. In return BeeRyong
will devote his heart and soul to his new owner. For the owner who
understands and respects what a Jindo truly is, this is a once in a lifetime
dog.

Update 9/3/08:
While
in foster care, BeeRyong developed adult onset cataracts. This happened
very suddenly; however, like most dogs who find themselves vision-impaired,
BeeRyong is adjusting easily. His vision problem does not effect
his health in any way and he is a happy, playful, loving dog.
