MeiMei is a white female Jindo who weighs 35 pounds and we estimate to be about one year old.  She was an owner turn-in and arrived at the shelter with wounds and fresh blood after being injured in a fight with the owner’s other dogs.  It was these ongoing fights that caused her owner to turn her in to the shelter, and it is our belief that MeiMei was being continuously picked on by the other dogs in that household.  The owner reported that she was an outside dog and was good with children.

MeiMei spent five days in the crowded shelter and was extremely stressed by her larger more dominant kennelmates.  She did not eat while in the shelter, and she developed kennel cough.  While being evaluated in the shelter, her entire body shook uncontrollably until she was finally calmed with soothing petting and reassurances.  When the decision was made to bring her into foster care, the shelter worker sincerely thanked Jin-Sohl saying she was such a sweet dog.  Given the wounds on her face and obvious mental deterioration in the shelter environment, they feared no one would see what a great a dog she was and that she didn’t have a chance of being adopted.

Now that she is out of the shelter, and thanks to the hard work of her foster home to help her make the adjustment, MeiMei has come out of her depression and stressed state to blossom into an extremely happy and outgoing young dog.  She loves running and playing in the yard and enjoys playing with tennis balls, kongs, or other toys either by herself or with her humans.  

Her wounds have healed, her coat is beautiful, and she is now just awaiting her new "forever" home.  Having lived entirely outside at her original home, she has now learned the joys of being in the house.  She is now comfortable in the home environment and is very polite asking before assuming she has rights to furniture or specific areas in the home.  She is a quick learner and has learned basic commands such as “sit,” “down,” “paw,” etc.  She has also learned to walk on a leash and is coming to understand the typical sights, sounds, and experiences of a neighborhood.

MeiMei wants nothing more than to have someone to play with and love.  Being a true Jindo at heart, she forms tight bonds with those she is close to and showers them with kisses.  She is a playful,  inquisitive pup, and has great fun zooming around the yard. MeiMei does have a very soft temperament and needs a home that will understand her gentle nature and her lack of exposure to many typical things in the environment.  Loud noises or large objects, when first encountered, evoke a desire in her to hide.  Gentle reassurances help her adjust and overcome her initial fear.

MeiMei is spayed, microchipped, and fully vaccinated.  She is typically picky about her bathroom habits and is housetrained. She travels well crated in the car.  She displays the strong prey drive typical of this hunting breed and is not a good choice for a home with cats.  Due to her past history Mei Mei may do best as an only dog, however a submissive male canine companion might be appropriate if a gradual introduction process is followed.  Mei Mei has become close friends with her foster buddy Dambee.  While we will separate them for the right situation, we would love to see this pair go to a home together. 

Mei Mei is good with kids age 6 and over who understand how to be gentle and have been taught by their parents how to treat and respect dogs 
 

Sadly, MeiMei's previous life has left her with a permanent reminder.  She has two healed-over notches in the back of one ear, and thus this ear is not held quite as high as the other.  The injured ear also jiggles when she walks – an endearing little reminder that her future is much brighter than her past.  Now she just needs that special forever home to call her own.

MeiMei means Little Sister -- a very appropriate name for this little sweetheart.
